Greetings 2025 Burke Lake District Pinewood Derby participants (and the parents who are likely looking at this info)!
The first ever Burke Lake District Pinewood Derby will be held on:
Saturday, 1 March 2025
Please read the information carefully and let us know if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions.
Entries
Each Pack in the Patriot District is invited to register one Cub Scout in each of six rank categories and in one of two event categories, that will enable their participation in either the Speed or Show competitions. Thus, up to 12 Cub Scouts per pack are permitted to participate. The District Pinewood Derby is not an open event and all participants must be pre-registered by their Pack Committee (registration information can be found below - Pack Committee Only). Please check the Rules for additional information.
Date and Times
The event will be held on: Saturday, 1 March 2025.
Competition times for each of the six Dens for both Speed and Show are given on the Race Day Schedule (also listed above on the right side of the page). All participating Cub Scouts should be sure to arrive early enough to get registered within the period specified for their rank. Registration lines will close promptly at the time indicated in order to help ensure that the overall competition schedule for the day can be maintained.
Location
The Burke Lake District Pinewood Derby will again be held at:
The Fairfax County Government Center 12000 Government Center Pkwy, Fairfax, VA 22035
Please see here for additional information and floorplan image of building.
The District Pinewood Derby leadership team would like to extend our thanks to Braddock District Supervisor James R. Walkinshaw and the Fairfax County Government Center for hosting us for this year's Pinewood Derby!

Registration
Each Pack must complete one form prior to February 20th! Each Scout's name must be listed and please be sure to provide a good Pack contact so we can verify your Pack's entry!!
Click here to register your Pack.
Alternatively, download and scan/email PDF registration form (not both).
Please ensure that registration (either linked PDF form or Google form) is provided no later than:
Wednesday, 20 February 2025. This allows us to ensure we have sufficient medals/bling for all Scouts!
Please remember that pre-cut cars bought from a hobby shop or craft store are NOT allowed – all entries must have been made starting with the Official BSA Pinewood Derby Kit. Cars must be built during this Scouting year (academic year which starts on July first) starting from the block of wood in an Official Pinewood Derby Kit.
To preserve the track (and the Race Director's sanity) please ensure that only DRY lubricants are used on axles!
Volunteers
We are always happy to have additional volunteers to help on the big Race Day, as well as for set-up (on Friday night and Saturday morning), pit crew, and clean-up. If you are available to help, please send an e-mail to us at PinewoodDerby.BLD@gmail.com. Other Patriot District Committee members are also encouraged to help out in planning and preparation.
Questions?
If you have any questions regarding the rules, participation, or other topics pertaining to this Patriot District activity, please contact the Patriot District Pinewood Derby Chairman below.
Please consider providing feedback on this site, the registration process, and the Derby!
